CASE STUDY

Anacoluthia

“I provided Lynn with a basic storyboard and some notes, and she visually interpreted these in masterful style.”

Anacoluthia is a multimedia studio website housing the creative output of its owner, Symbolist poet Alex Staines, including collaborations with fellow artists in print, web, video, and audio productions.

Scenario

Alex Staines, founder of Anacoluthia, wanted to capture a particular feel for his brand and website that would immediately communicate to visitors a mood of strangeness and also beauty, while providing a memorable and easily navigable user experience.

Challenges

My challenge was to create a website design outside of the norm in terms of look and feel, shifting the focus from a commercial audience and delivering what resonates with creatives in this space. The overriding focus was to create an atmosphere that embraces the emotional depth of Alex’s work, much of which is derived from dark places and experiences.

Solution

The start point was creating the Anacoluthia brand – embracing the mysterious and the dreamlike, while inviting the audience to interact with the content, and also providing efficiency in terms of usability. This part of the work facilitated immersion into the psyche of Anacoluthia’s audience, developed from a brief that was a little different from most. Sourcing imagery that spoke to the ideas of Symbolism and Dark Romanticism formed the basis of the look and feel.

Alex's Response

“Lynn has done a superb job designing my brand identity and website. It was a left-field exercise, with a challenging brief to capture a specific look and feel. I provided Lynn with a basic storyboard and some notes, and she visually interpreted these in masterful style. This job could easily have been mangled by someone with less skill and imaginative courage. It’s perfect – I couldn’t be more pleased.”
